\nAn adult lights a match and drops it into the bottle; quickly cover the mouth of the bottle with the egg.

\nThe burning paper heats the molecules of air in the bottle (increasing their energy) and the molecules move farther away from each other. When the flame goes out (because the egg is blocking its source of oxygen), the molecules of air in the bottle cool down and move closer together, making room for new air molecules. This creates a partial vacuum. Normally, air from outside the bottle would flow to that area to fill that vacuum, but the egg is blocking the path for air to enter the bottle.
