Reduce trash with this fun craft that you can make using leftover plastic food containers!
First look for the recycling symbol on the plastic – this project only works with #6 plastic (there will be a small 6 inside the triangle symbol). These are typically the clear plastic containers you can find at salad bars or for take-out food. Make sure the plastic is clean!
Use permanent markers to draw on the plastic. Then cut around the shape. Even the bent edges of the plastic container will work!
If desired, punch a hole in the plastic so there will be a place to thread string or a key ring when the project is done.
Place the plastic on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place the sheet in a preheated oven set to 350 degrees. WATCH the plastic – the change will happen very quickly. Within about 1-3 minutes, the plastic will curl and begin to shrink. Within one more minute, the plastic will flatten again and your project is done.
Carefully remove the hot tray from oven, and lift the plastic pieces from the tray when they have cooled.
