Stomp Rockets
½” OD PVC pipe: (3) 1 foot, (2) 6 inch
4 way connector
45 degree connector
(2) end caps
paper
scissors
tape, clear and duct
empty water bottle
Assemble the PVC launcher:
- Insert the two shorter pipes into the 4 way connector so they are opposite each other
- Place an end cap on each open end of the shorter pipes
- Insert the two longer pipes into the 4 way connector into the two remaining slots so they are opposite each other
- On the open end of one of the longer pipes, attach the elbow connector
- Insert the final pipe into the other end of the elbow connector
- Reinforce connections with duct tape, if desired
- Decorate with duct tape, acrylic paint (not washable) or sharpies if desired
Make the rocket:
- Wrap a piece of printer paper around a piece of PVC pipe and secure with tape – IMPORTANT – the rocket needs to slide easily on the PVC pipe; it should fit nicely, but not be too snug
- Close off the tip of the rocket; pinch and tape (easier) create a nose cone using paper (advanced)
- Add fins or other adornments to the rocket if desired
To launch:
- Place an empty plastic bottle over the open PVC pipe closest to the 4-way connector. Slice your rocket over the open PVC pipe sticking up at the end of the launcher.
- Make sure the launch area is clear
- Stomp on the bottle and watch it fly!
- Test and improve! Try different size bottles or rocket designs…
