Big as a Blue Whale

Our Curious Kids discover it takes lots of team work to measure the length of a blue whale!

Curious Kids

We continued to explore oceans this week through measurement. While discussing length, we discovered that emperor penguins are taller than most preschoolers! We used kitchen sponges to create ocean art while we discussed that ocean sponges have very few body parts, and that they spend most of their time just eating and breathing. We compared weights of different fish, and learned that a codfish weighs 100 times as much as a goldfish, and that one tuna can make 70 cans of tunafish. Curious Kids also spent time measuring and comparing pictures of whales with one inch rulers. What are some things in your home that you can measure with your child this week?

STEM Explorers 2-3

Our second and third graders had big fun this week blinking and buzzing with littleBits circuits. We explored with inputs and outputs, and learned how switches, lamps, dimmers, and splitters work together. We developed all kinds of different circuits and discussed our successes and challenges as we worked. We’re looking forward to working with the littleBits again next week when we engineer our own projects with our circuits!

DI Club

Our DI Clubs took the first week by “storm” with a focus on brainstorming.  We also did an instant challenge in which we built the tallest tower we could that was to be measured after it was dropped.
