Curious Kids / STEM K-1

This week, both Curious Kids and STEM K-1 learned that when a chemical reaction takes place something changes that can’t be changed back. We turned slime into bubbling foam, and we observed chemical reactions with our senses using pipettes to add vinegar (an acid) to baking soda (a base). We discovered that once you pop popcorn, you can’t “unpop” and made predictions with our kernels. An exciting moment was when we made “Frankenstein’s Glove” inflate with carbon dioxide during a chemical reaction!

STEM Explorers 2-3

After learning how littleBits worked last week, we spent this week’s class creating our own projects using circuits. We made flashlights with our LED lamps, used motors to create cars with spinning wheels and robots with moving parts, and used our lamps and bar graphs to build a scary dragon with a face that lights up.

DI Club

In DI Club 3-5 we learned about the importance of roles on a team and practiced using different roles to complete our instant challenge.  We also started a design project to explore wheels, axles and the iterative design and build process.  (This year one of the DI challenges is to build a vehicle that can travel 14 ft while carrying a team member, so learning about wheels is useful!)  DI Club K-2, we practiced paper folding skills and built some very tall towers with only paper.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: We do have class next week (Mon-Thurs) and then classes are on hiatus March 25 – April 1 for Spring Break.  We have camps each day 9am-12pm during spring break if you are looking for fun, hands-on activities to keep your child engaged.
